(just so you know, the'â€' ar em dashes idk why it translate to that in the code lol)
October 12th, 8026
It was a regular day in lab 214 for the mutants. I mean, a 'regular day' here isn't really what you would think it is normally. Here, it's being yelled at by humans way stronger than you, eating way less than the average person needs, and sleeping for 4 hours before being woken up by the loudest alarm that you'll ever hear.
Milo was a mutated rabbit; an english lop with pale brown fur, to be precise. Unlike the other mutated kids, he wasn't kept in a lab cell, but he was with the ones they called the 'highers'. They're basically humans with way more power than the one being kept as lab rats.
Milo's parents are one of the only mutants that are part of the Highers, and by definition, Milo was part of them to. But he didn't wanted to be part of them — Well, he didn't want to be kept in a cage either — But he wanted to run. Far away from all of this, to see what's out there. Who knows, mabye there's other mutants out there, or even villages, or-
"Daisy?"
Shit. His dad was calling him. Daisy was Milo's deadname, and naturally, he really hated when anyone called him that. Today was Milo's 16th birthday, and his dad promised to take him on his shift at the lab as a 'gift'. Even if Milo really didn't wanted to do this, he knew that his dad was gonna be mad if he didn't go.
"Daisy! there's my birthday girl!!"
"Hey dad.."
"Ready for your first impression of a day at the lab?!"
Milo nodded, and they both headed outside his room to a door at the end of a long hallway that smelled like hand sanitizer. When his dad opened it, there was about twelve prison cells with a mutant in all of them. One of them, at the end of the room, started to yell at his dad, so he quickly put her down with a taser. Milo froze. He never saw the prisoners in person, and never imagined them to be treated like that.
"I'm gonna go grab something, but you stay right here, ok Daisy?"
Milo nodded once again as the door closed behind him. He was left alone. Everyone stared at him for what felt like hours, before returning to their bed.. Except for one girl, a leopard gecko mutant. He began to walk toward her.
To say she looked pissed would be an understatement, but her expression soften when she saw that Milo looked uncomfortable.
"Was that your dad?"
Milo didn't answer the question, he instead said "Does he always treat you like that..?
"Yeah." She replied.
There was a moment where no one talked, and Milo was the one who continued the conversation. "Yeah, that was my dad.. I'm so sorry he's like that, I really didn't know!"
"It's fine. We all got used to it eventually. I'm Lizzie, by the way. And you're Daisy, right? I heard your dad say that name."
"It's— Milo, actually." He said, hopping that Lizzie wouldn't think too much about it. Thankfully, she looked like she didn't. They couldn't continue any further, as his dad came back.
"We can get going, now." His father said, trying to be cheerful since it was Milo's birthday, but still keeping that usual monotone voice of his. Before they left, Milo gave a quick look at Lizzie, meaning 'see you later'.
When he got back to his room at the end of the day, and closed the door behind him, he felt like crying. Was that how the mutants were always treated?! He needed a distraction from this. So Milo grabbed his sketchbook and began to draw his ocs until he was to tired to continued, and fell on his bed.

Milo needed to be sneaky. He wanted to see that girl again.. Lizzie. But he didn't want to get caught, especially by his dad. He walked outside his room and through that long hallway that felt even longer now, and carefully opened the door at the end that was left unlocked by his dad. He saw Lizzie sitting again the bars, and he slowly approach her.
"Hey.. Lizzie? Was that your name?" Milo whispered
She turned around, and he noticed that her eyes were a bit red, like she was crying. "..Milo? Why are you here?"
"I.. wanted to see you again." Milo answered
Milo handed her some dried berry he had hidden under his bed for a while now, and Lizzie gladly took them. "Ok... so, why did your dad call you Daisy? Is it like a nickname or something?" She said while eating one.
"It's- Yeah, it's a.. nickname." He said, panicking inside.
"Ok, I see. By the way, I never saw you around here. I mean, I already saw your dad, but never you."
Damn, this girl changes topic really fast. "I kinda stay in my room all day, so mabye that's why you never saw me. The only reason I was here yesterday is because it was my 16th birthday"
"So your dad brought you here as a birthday gift?!" Lizzie chuckled. "That.. must have been the worst birthday of your life."
"Yeah, It was.." Milo laugh back softly. "I also wanted to ask, how old are you? If we're around the same age, we could totally be friends!!"
The gecko paused for a moment. Milo was scared that mabye he said something he wasn't supposed to..
"Friends? In.. In here..?" Lizzie hesitated. There was another pause, and she looked away "I'm 17, that means we're only a year apart. So.. ok. Why not." She looked back at Milo, and his face lighten up immediately.
"Really?! I never had a friend before!!" He gave Lizzie the biggest smile she ever saw, and squeezed his arms through the cell bars to try to hug her, but she took a step back, and Milo almost instantly calmed down
"Sorry, I got a little exited.." Milo looked away.
"No— It's fine, really. I'm just not used to physical touch." She lightly grabbed his hand. "You.. you should get going now, your dad is probably looking for you."
"Nah, I don't really care about him right now. After all, he can't stop me from talking with my first ever friend!!"
They both smiled, and kept talking until the lights got dark. When Milo got back to his room, his dad asked him where he was and yelled at him for hours, until he finally left, and the rabbit could fall asleep happily. But some question were still in his head.. Why did Lizzie looked so hesitant when he told her he wanted to be friends? And was she crying before Milo came to see her? But he didn't want to think about that right now. He was just happy to have finally made a friend.
